Neshei Charlotte - The Women's Division of the Charlotte Torah Center
Neshei Charlotte, the women's division of the Charlotte Torah Center is dedicated to providing educational and social opportunities to women of all backgrounds as a means of enhancing the understanding and appreciation of the value of women's roles and mitzvos. As Jewish Women we share questions, interests and issues that are unique to us. Neshei Charlotte provides an array of opportunities for women looking for answers, encouragement, and information to find any of these and much, much more. Some of our most popular programs are those that involve an opportunity to learn more about an aspect of Judaism while having a good time! Neshei Charlotte is a special opportunity for women from across the Jewish spectrum to come together in a warm and open atmosphere, to grow together in our Judaism, and to appreciate the bond we all share as Jewish women.
We offer weekly group classes on most any topic of choice. Our current Jewish Feminine Mystique Class is taught by Rebetzin Sara Oppenheim. This class is held at the CTC every Tuesday morning from 9:20 -10:20am and every Tuesday evening from 7:30 - 8:30pm. A monthly Jewish Book Club is starting on March 3rd with our first pick, "Miriam's Kitchen" - a Memoir. "Miriam's Kitchen" is a mix of recipes and memories. We witness the author's personal journey from ambivalent Jew to a woman who observes tradition and teaches her children about their ethnic heritage.
Neshei Charlotte also hosts monthly Rosh Chodesh events. Rosh Chodesh is the celebration of the beginning of each Jewish month. Traditionally this has been a women's holiday and as such, with the custom of doing no work, it makes for a perfect opportunity to get together and celebrate our lives as Jewish women.
We hope you'll join us for Nishei Charlotte events throughout the months of February and March: 1) Make Your Own Sushi, Wednesday February 25th @ 7:30 at the CTC; 2) Jewish Book Club featuring "Miriam's Kitchen" by Elizabeth Ehrlich, Tuesday March 3rd @ 11:45am at the Jewish Library in the JCC; 3) Hamantaschen Baking, Sunday March 8th @ 4pm at the CTC; 4) Passover Desserts Cooking Class, Wednesday March 25th @ 7pm at the CTC.
Please visit our website on a regular basis for our monthly Rosh Chodesh events, classes, and book club meetings. If you would like to be added to our Neshei Charlotte's mailing list, please email info@charlottetorahcenter.com. For more info about Neshei Charlotte, please call Lisa at 704.972.8037.

Women Enjoyed "Secrets of the Spas" at the Charlotte Torah Center"
by Marcy Goldstein
On a cold Tuesday evening in mid-January, I walked into the Charlotte Torah Center and was immediately warmed by glowing candles, eucalyptus scents, and a cup of mint tea. I truly felt that I had entered an exclusive spa as I joined about twenty women for "Secrets of the Spas," January's Rosh Chodesh gathering of women sponsored by Neshei Charlotte - A Women's Group For Women, By Women. After Sara Oppenheim spoke about the meaning of Rosh Chodesh (Head of the Month), we were led by Lisa Bixen, Director of Nishei Charlotte, into the spa world using homemade toners, exfoliants, and moisturizers to revitalize our faces and our moods. Who knew that a mixture of oatmeal, honey, and yogurt could cleanse and moisturize my face? We all dropped our formalities as we enjoyed the many stages of our facial, which meant pulling back our hair and replacing makeup with messy things like avocado until our skin temporarily took on a lovely greenish hue. Conversations flowed above the relaxing background music even when we were all under our towels deep breathing an essential oil steam sauna. A hot rock massage treatment followed by a few chocolate pistachio truffles topped off the evening. And we all left with a spa gift basket and recipe book of "Spa Secrets" so that we can similarly treat ourselves anytime at home. This was truly a meaningful Rosh Hodesh evening, a time when women are not supposed to work but rather renew themselves and relax.
